The WASTEred project aims to promote the use and encourage the market penetration of LODOred, a new and ECO-Innovative product, in the food industry (slaughterhouses, meat processing and dairy companies) in order to reduce the large amounts of sewage sludge generated in their wastewater treatment plants. The expected reduction will decrease the environmental impact of these sectors, as well as the costs associated to the sludge management.

Work plan description

WP 1- Project Management and Coordination

The first work package relates to the overall management and co-ordination of the project, which will be carried out by the Coordinator (BIOAZUL), supported by TTZ, which is the product developer but has also vast experiences in management of European projects. The work package will begin in Month 1 of the project and continue for its entire duration.

WP 2- Analysis of market barriers /end user requirements

In work package 2, a short analysis of existing market barriers for eco-innovative products will be done in order to adapt the market introduction strategy accordingly. In this part, a characterization of specific end-user requirements and needs will be organized in order to develop the three case studies. The last task will be the selection of suitable test sites in Poland, Spain and Germany.

WP 3- Case studies of LODOred

Work package 3 is dedicated to the planning, preparation and implementation of case studies at the end user's water treatment plants in the selected sites in Poland, Spain and Germany. In order to have later on a good market access, each test will be performed in one of the following sectors dealing with a specific wastewater composition: dairies, slaughterhouses and meat processing companies.

WP 4- Economic evaluation for future markets

Work package 4 is constituted to evaluate the economic and ecological benefits of the application of LODOred in the food and beverage sector of selected European countries (Spain, Germany, and Poland). Specific cost-benefit-analysis will be conducted for all three pilot tests in order to estimate the saved costs coming along with the application of LODOred. Furthermore, the estimation for future markets is completed in this work package in order to prepare strategic decisions for market penetration.

WP 5- Training and capacity building of Industrial Associations

Work package 5 includes the preparation of dissemination and training material within the first task. As dissemination is one of the core tasks in this project, a special focus will be given to the development of high quality material. Furthermore, four (one in each pilot country and one in Brussels) initial training workshops will be prepared and implemented with the aim to raise initial awareness and prepare the catalysts for the diffusion of LODOred product. Following, three additional promotion workshops targeting an audience composed by end-users and other stakeholders will be executed in each pilot country; these workshops will also include a field visit to the pilot test sites.

WP 6- Commercialization of LODOred

Work package 6 is designed for the commercialization of LODOred and includes the development and the launch of the project website. Furthermore, a marketing concept including marketing objectives, strategies and activities will be developed. First marketing activities will be implemented and a strategic review will be executed. This package is related to all the others due to the fact that the main communication and dissemination channels and tools will be developed within this one.

WP 7- Common dissemination activities

"Common Dissemination Activities" covers resources to contribute, upon request by the EACI, to common dissemination activities and a final evaluation with the aim to increase synergies among projects supported by the ECO-Innovation Programme and to increase their visibility.
